i noticed it yesterday, that the skin around her eye was pinkish red and puffy
so i took her to the vet this morning.
The vet took a razor blade and scraped the skin, then put the flakes under the microscope. The cool thing is the Vet let me look at the parasite through the microscope.
It was pretty amazing. Looked sorta like this
Apparently there are two types of mange, one is basically scabies and can be contagious. That is SARCOPTIC MANGE.
Red Mange is Demo..ic mange, and dogs that get it have a genetic disposition to it.
It is not contagious. And that is what Eleanor has.
So she is getting dipped at the vet right now and then I will have to
give her medicine daily for two weeks.
Oh, by the way, if anyone ever heard that dipping your dog in motor oil treats mange,
everything i read explicitly said NEVER DO THIS. EVER. I never heard of it but people do crazy-awful things to their dogs, even when they think they are helping. Coating an animal in motor oil can KILL IT.
